This past month, I’ve realized that I’ve been digitally saturated and in definite need for some time away from the computer, my cel phone and especially social media.
To live a balanced life is to live a healthy life and it’s not only beneficial but vital to set some boundaries when things get crazy. We live in a digital age, in which our cel phones run our day and many have fallen prey to what I call “digital addiction”. I’m not judging because, I’ve definitely been there and deeply understand the importance of unplugging.
So that being said, here are my TOP 3 Tips to Unwind, which are easy ways to restore balance to your life:
1. Take a nature walk.
There is nothing like going outside and just taking in the beauty of nature. I’ve experienced this first hand, when I’ve had a stressful day and decided to take a breather by just taking a walk to a nearby park. Simply taking a mental break from it all and allowing Mother Nature to embrace us with open arms. Strolling around your neighborhood, exploring the scenery of a natural park, exploring nearby garden and enjoy the aroma of its fragrant flowers (like the saying goes: take time to smell the roses)— are sure ways to unwind and help you relax from the stressors of your day.
Physically, you will feel more upbeat as the walk will have your blood flowing and your muscles working. It’s a great way to clear your mind and open yourself to more serenity.
2. Start a Gratitude Journal.
I first heard of the concept of a gratitude journal from my mom as a child but it wasn’t until a church service on New Year’s day back in 2012, that it really hit me that it could truly be a life-enhancing practice. It truly helped me to put things into perspective, as life can sometimes get turbulent.
I continued to journal and pray but did not really get into gratitude as a stress reliever until about 2 years ago when I started my instagram journey. Being an instagram influencer lead to launching my blog and a plethora of business opportunities and partnerships. But with the positives came the stress, challenges and some unexpected curveballs.
When I would face issues that where quite overwhelming, I’d take some time out of my day to write down at least 5 things that I could be grateful for. What I found interesting is that, giving thanks shifted my perspective from limited thinking to a positive outlook. I’d think, I’m thankful for the opprtunity to travel to NYC. If I could get a ticket to New York, surely I can ace my meeting with a potential business partner. Or for being able to wear my favorite pair of fuzzy socks. I just gave thanks for everything! Even the little things made the list and frankly, those were the most precious. Like the sayin’ goes, “the best things are free” and we definitely have so many priceless things to be thankful for. So give thanks and see your stressors diminish!
3. Unplug from social media.
Yes, disconnect. You can do it!
Can I be honest with you for a minute? A lot of our stress is triggered by stuff we see online! We are so invested in our social media profiles that we are literally emotionally connected to what is going on in our digital worlds. By taking a healthy step back from all the frenetic activity, automatic responses and immediate gratification that likes and follows provide, we are taking control of our our peace of mind. Not to sound extreme but this exercise is one of the best ways to ensure you unwind and helps with clearing your mind. I know many of us can’t go days without our phone, it’s just not realistic, but taking a few hours sans social media (even if you have to send out an alert) won’t kill anyone.
On the contrary, you will be able to enjoy the peace and quiet of waking up and enjoying a delicious cup of tea, for example, without the digital distractions.
Go into airplane mode and totally unplug ladies! It’s totally worth triggering your FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), as you displine yourself to set those healthy boundaries. I see it as a form self-respect and letting you and others know, you are worthy of your “me” time, serenity and living a balanced life!
So lovelies, do you have any tips for unwinding? Don’t hesitate to share!
Taking the time to unwind and relax is an essential part of life and although a simple concept- we could all use a little encouragement to use more of it! What say you?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
