1. Château de Fontainebleau

The gardens are a work of art comprising of lakes, canals, wooded areas and manicured lawns. I particularly love the castle’s architecture and how it makes the perfect backdrop for fabulous pictures. It is the first castle, surrounded by a huge and scenic forest, built in the XII century as a hunting place for the king of France. Today it is one of the largest and most breathtaking royal castles in France.
2. Château de Chantilly
Truly the best one for weddings.

3. Château de Versailles
“let them eat cake”. The Marie Antoinette in us all will love this castle. But she wasn’t always so ostentatious. She also had a humble side to her and would escape the stifling fastes de la cour, to a little royal cottage called le Hameau de la Reine.
But when it came to her daily official life as Queen, she lived as such. And her bedroom, open to the public, it’s still one of the most stunning places I’ve seen historically and in real life.

4. Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Disney Paris)

minutes outside of Paris
Love this place. Although not an ancient castle, the “Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant” or Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is located at the end of Main Street in Disneyland Paris. With soaring spires and gorgeous turrets, the iconic 167ft fairy-tale castle is definitely worth a visit when you need a bit of magic in your life. The castle itself is the only Disney castle with its own huge animatronic dragon in the dungeon below, which regularly wakes up and blows smoke. Micheal Jackson stayed there for his honeymoon with Lisa Presley and is the only celebrity allowed to spend the night. On our end, we can enjoy the stunning view over the iconic park and pretend to be your favorite Disney Princess surveying your magic kingdom.
5. Château de Vaux le Vicomte

My favorite. Always and forever. I had such a blast and stays etched into my heart. You could also rent some buggy carts and ride around the castle grounds. We ventured around the back and saw some fine deers and even little bunnies. There was a creek at the back that could be crossed and the perfect location for pictures. The inside of the castle was magnificent and we visited it by candlelight. It is the tradition. And then we wandered down by the dungeon and saw the scariest and most unexpected thing: the man in the iron mask! He did exist and holding back our breaths we realized it was an wax statue (albeit real looking one) to honor his story. Great place to visit and it ends at the top floor of the castle with romantic fireworks. An unparalleled experience.
